Welcome to The WYPSAC  Website here is a report on what our members have been doing this last year

Annual Report 2009

The Sub Aqua Association AGM in April was held this year at the Palace Hotel, Buxton, Derbyshire. Following the business of the day and awards there were presentations and discussions on new training modules. There was also time to share experiences and diving tips with fellow divers from around the country. The dinner dance was once again a great evening.

Members of the club have logged nearly 1000 dives in another incident/accident free year. Club organized diving took place at locations including inland sites at Stoney Cove in Leicestershire, Blue Lagoon in Yorkshire, Capernwray in Lancashire, sea locations at St Abbs in S.E. Scotland, Bridlington, Tobermoray on the Isle of Mull and the Farne Islands off Northumberland, Hurgharda in Egypt and a charter boat to the sea off Sudan.

A January trip to the Red Sea has now established itself as an annual event, as there is some amazing hotel deals at this time of year. 2009 saw 12 members fly to Hurghada for a week and completed 11 dives each over 5 days of day boat diving on wonderful reefs.

18 divers attended the May Day weekend trip to St Abbs. The close location of the dive sights to the harbour allows the charter boats to operate a ‘shuttle service’.

In July 9 members made the journey up to Tobermoray, which is an enjoyable drive in itself. The weather was kind to us and we were able to sail out of the north end of the Sound of Mull to dive wrecks off the Isle of Coll as well as some old favourite wrecks in the Sound itself over 3 days.

The club boat was towed up to Seahouses in September for a long weekend to dive the Farne Islands. 7 members took part in 3 days excellent diving. The seals never fail to entertain and there seemed to be a big increase in the volume of fish life around the islands from previous visits.

In October 5 members took part in a two-week ‘live aboard’ boat expedition to the southern Red Sea in the Sudanese waters, where they were able to dive some of the more remote dive sites.

Training throughout this year continued developing existing members to higher grades of Open water Diver, Club Diver and Dive Leader. Various avenues have been explored to recruit new members, unfortunately without success this year. Enquiries with our association reveal that diver numbers are falling nationally.

The club finances remain in a healthy state. Subs remain unchanged at a total cost of £10.80p per month. The boat is running really well and this year required only minimal expenditure. The club continues to meet at Rothwell Sports Centre where we have half the pool on Wednesday evenings from 7.30 to 8.30 and afterwards in the Toby Carvery Bar across the roundabout from the sports centre. The aim of the club remains the same, in that money will always be given as a priority to (and in order of): 1. Diver Safety - 2. Diver Training  - 3. Affordable Diving.

Club Awards:-   Diver of the Year -  Marie England
